Scrolling — myth or reality?

November 25, 2017

There is a belief that users don't like to scroll. Consequently, all useful information must be placed above the fold or on different pages/screens. But is it true?
Actually, no. Here are 2 reasons why:

1. Long content
Marketers tend to create longer content, as it is more useful for customers and better for site`s SEO. Long content is impossible to read without scrolling.

2. Touchscreens
Mobile devices and sensors made scrolling a part of our lives. And due to the fact that more than 50% of internet traffic comes from mobile devices, this tendency is not about to end.

So, how to make scrolling on your site more convenient?

Use Scrolloing points
People tend to scan a text when they first see it in order to find interesting information. You need to break your texts into parts emphasizing facts that interest your users — these will be your scrolling points. Lead readers from one point to another and make them read the text from top to bottom.

Write a good header and an introduction
Basing on them people will decide if they will read your text or not.

Add pictures
If you can point out the most important facts with pictures, do it. But don't use stock photos — we're talking about infographics or unique images.

Be careful about the "False bottom"
False bottom is an effect when user thinks that there is no more interesting content below the fold. You can avoid it by organizing your content correctly or by adding arrows and scroll-down buttons.

And don't forget about sticky navigation!

This is the best way to make scrolling more comfortable.
